I Just Got Incepted
January 19th, 2011 § Leave a Comment
This one’s fairly long and complicated. Let’s see if I can remember everything.
So I had a dream that my younger brother and I were trying to get tickets to go see a baseball game. I don’t know who was playing, but the players weren’t important. When we got there, the game was completely sold out. We didn’t know what to do, so we started climbing the outside of the stadium.
There were two parallel columns that went all the way up the side of the stadium, but were only about 4 feet apart. If you were to look down from a bird’s eye view on them, they are each a triangle in shape. They were made of metal. While we were climbing up, I could see that there were small panels of glass that were attached individually, about 6in x 6in. This made it difficult to climb, but we kept climbing.
We reached the top and sat firmly on top of the posts. We could see everything at the baseball game. We relaxed at the the top and started eating sandwiches. Soon, a foul ball flew our way, right over us. I kept my eye on it and almost fell off my post. They showed an instant replay, which showed in fullscreen view in my dream. Then I realized the ball was right in front of me. Though we were on top of the posts, they were not connected to the stadium. They were about 3 feet away from the stadium and there was a little ledge that the ball had fallen onto. I tried to reach out for it. I just couldn’t reach it. I kept reaching because I wanted to give the ball to my brother. There’s nothing like getting a foul ball at a game. Then the ball fell down a small crack and was gone.
This happened again, several times in fact. I kept reaching for the ball and it would either fall down a crack, or fall over the ledge. Then I decided I was going to climb down my post and go get a ball for my brother. So I climbed slowly, making sure not to look down. I don’t really remember being scared to look down, which seems odd now.
Right when I made it to the ground, I saw a ball and went and grabbed it. Then I thought I saw another, but when I walked over, it was gone. I thought I saw another, but it disappeared too. Then I gave the ball to my brother.
Then I woke up. I had fallen asleep on my couch and both of my brothers were there. I started telling them about this dream and they thought it was hilarious. I told it all in very vivid detail, recalling the entire dream. Then my older brother showed me a video of he and my younger brother playing “You are Good” by Israel Houghton. I of course loved the video and thought it was awesome. In addition to playing drums, my younger brother played guitar in the video, which he normally doesn’t do. When he played drums, the drums were facing away from the crowd. The camera angle moved quite a bit though. My other brother sang and played guitar as well. My younger brother’s drumming was very frantic and out of control. He would switch instruments constantly, which was odd. I noticed in the video that there was a large crowd as well, which I wasn’t expecting, and thought it too bad since my brother’s drumming was so frantic.
I told them I liked the video and then told them that I needed to blog my latest dream. So I sat on my couch and pulled up my computer. I opened the blog and started to make a new entry. There was a video in the corner that offered help, which I didn’t click. However, my Mom was there and noted that the video had been done by my brother’s wife and she was very excited about it. The video was done by a company starting with a D. I don’t remember the name, it was hard to pronounce. Then I made a joke, saying “oh is it D’Addario?” (a common guitar string brand). Then I took the joke one further and said, “is it D’Addario or Dillanos?” (Dillano’s being a local coffee house my brother likes). I thought I was hilarious. Then the couch cushions started being difficult and coming undone like they often do.
Then I woke up again. Still on the same couch, but this time in the real world.
I think.
Giant Weed Kit

I walked to a 711 with a friend of mine from Oregon (where I used to live). We were in California though. In this dream world, prop 19 (legalization of marijuana) had passed. Weed was completely legal. (It is worth noting that I have never done any drugs in my lifetime and would not smoke weed if it was legalized.)
So we went to 711. We picked out a giant weed kit. I don’t remember if it was to grow your own weed or if it was just a giant box of weed. The box was about 6 feet long, a foot wide, and maybe 8 inches high. We dragged it over the counter where the middle eastern cashier rang us up. In my mind, I was really nervous about buying this. Even though it had been legalized, I still was very nervous buying a ton of weed. The cashier rang us up and asked to see our marijuana licenses. Apparently that was something we needed to have. When I explained to him that we didn’t have one, he said it was fine and that he would still sell us our giant kit but we needed to get a license soon. I pulled out my wallet to pay for the giant weed kit, hoping I would have enough cash to pay for it. In my mind, even though it was legal, I was still nervous and figured that if I payed with my card, they would be able to trace it back to me and get me in trouble.
So how much did the giant weed kit cost? A whopping 12 dollars. I forked over the cash and we left the store, both of us carrying the box because it was heavy. On our way to wherever we were going, I kept wondering in my mind if I would actually go through with smoking weed since it’s something I’ve never done and never would do in real life.
Then I woke up.
Music Map

I don’t remember a ton from last night’s dream, but here’s what I know.
In my dream I think I was traveling. I wasn’t very far from home, but I know I wasn’t home. I ended up meeting a young boy, probably about 14. He said that he was lost and didn’t know where to go. He explained to me that he initially knew where he was going, but then his map had changed and he didn’t know where to go.
I asked to see his map. It was a sheet of music. There were notes and markings all over it. This was his map that was guiding where he was going. He explained that when the map changed, one of the lines on the staff paper disappeared. Instead of 5 lines, there were only 4. So without the traditional notation system, he didn’t know where the notes were on a 4 note staff, and he didn’t know where to go.
Then I realized that this 4 line staff situation may have been caused by me in world outside the dream. I don’t know if I actually woke up or if I just thought I did. Either way, I remember waking up and looking over at my roommate’s bed and asking him if he knew anything about the situation and if we were responsible for the boy losing his way. I don’t remember what he said but I went back into my dream. I felt partially responsible for the boy being lost so I decided I was going to help him find his way home.
The rest of the dream was a montage that moved by quickly. We travelled through many cities trying to figure out where he was supposed to be. We talked to a lot of different people as well. I was very protective of him and any time someone came near, I would stand in their way and fight them.
It became and adventure and we became great friends. I don’t remember if we ever found where the boy way supposed to be going.
Then I woke up.
Alcoholic Great Grandma

I had a dream last night that was very brief, but here’s what happened.
I walked up to a table where my Mom was sitting with my Great Grandma. She passed away several years ago, but I didn’t think it was strange in the dream at all. It took my several minutes to get her attention so I could say hi and give her a hug. When she got up to give me a hug, I put something on the table that I had been holding in my hand. Right as I put it down, I noticed it was an open bottle of beer. When my great grandma stood up to hug me, she was about three and a half feet tall, much shorter than she was in real life. Right after she hugged me, she immediately reached for the beer bottle on the table, asking what it was. She started to put the bottle to her lips to sneak a sip. My mom quickly intervened, explaining that my great grandma was an alcoholic, sober for 40+ years, but one sip would surely catapult her into a binge drinking session. I took the bottle from my great grandma, who kept reaching for it. For the record, my great grandma was neither three and half feet tall, nor an alcoholic.
Then I woke up.

In last nights dream, I don’t remember all of the details, but here’s what I know.
My roommate who just moved out a month ago to move to a foreign country showed up randomly. I asked him why he was here and not overseas. He told me that it didn’t work out. Apparently the company he was going with overseas was some sort of scam and he backed out before he went over there. We were at some church talking about this with other people, and walking through the church parking lot. He told me that he might move back in with us, which would solve the apartment vacancy since he left.
I was very relieved to hear this. The only thing that was strange about the dream is that he had a Justin Bieber haircut. He didn’t say anything about this, it was just his new style, and I didn’t think much of it either.
Unprepared Date

Here we go:
I was just finishing a rehearsal with a band. My friends Nate and Tyler were playing piano and guitar, respectively. We jammed on some song for awhile, I was playing an F over and over. Nate played something incredibly cool. I asked what it was, because it was so awesome sounding. He told me it was a Count Basie tune. I was disappointed to hear that.
I was supposed to meet a date there right after the rehearsal. A random girl showed up and started acting like she knew me, but I didn’t recognizer. She was wearing a fancy asian themed dress. I was wearing shorts and a t shirt. I didn’t really remember her but I think I figured this must be the person I was supposed to go on the date with. At this point she was white with blonde hair.
We started to leave the rehearsal, I apologized for it running late. I could tell that she was not happy with me. Trying to lighten the mood, I said, “You look wonderful”. She replied with a cold, “I know”. Then all of a sudden I realized that I had not prepared for the date at all. I had no idea where we were going or what we were going to do. I pulled out my phone and started frantically searching to see if there was a cheesecake factory nearby. I figured that was a good medium fancy restaurant that could seem like I had thought about it ahead of time.
As we exited the rehearsal room, we entered the middle of a mall. The rehearsal had been in a store in the mall. We walked all over the mall, looking for something. She was looking for something in particular and was walking very fast. We went outside to the parking lot, and whatever it was she was looking for, she couldn’t find it. Whereas before she was white with blonde hair, now she had changed to be half black with very dark hair, and very tall. Much taller than me. We walked back into the mall and she was still searching. She mentioned that maybe we could go to PF Chang’s for dinner. I said I thought that sounded good and we made our way back to where the rehearsal was.
There was a sushi place right outside the rehearsal room that was underground, but with an open ceiling. If you were standing on the mall floor, you could see the entire restaurant in the middle of the mall, but it was open air so you could jump in. There were stairs on the side that led down into the open area.
A waitress handed us menus. The menus unzipped on the sides to fold out. We started looking at the menu to see if it sounded good. I looked at the prices and made a comment about how expensive everything was there. I then realized that that’s a terrible thing to say on a date. As I looked back at the menu, my vision was magnified so I was looking only at the prices. I tried to look away but couldn’t see anything else.
Then I woke up.
Mob Car Chase
October 12th, 2010 § Leave a Comment
I had a dream last night. It was incredibly vivid and I thought it was completely real. When I woke up I was very disoriented on how I had gotten back to my bed. Only in recalling it to my roommate did it seem strange.
A friend of mine’s car (or mine, I’m not sure) had been broken into by the mob. The only thing that had been stolen from the car was a bluetooth headset. It wasn’t particularly important. I don’t know why they took just that. Meanwhile, I had something that the mob wanted. I think it was a guitar amp. In real life this amp is a friend of mine’s and has 2 parts to it. I told the mob that I’d give them the guitar amp if they bought me a new bluetooth headset. They agreed and were surprisingly okay with the whole situation. They seemed very trustworthy.
I met the mob boss and his other mobsters in a parking lot that was off of a busy street. I tried on the bluetooth headset that they had brought. It was a large one that was made of really cheap plastic that looked very much like a child’s toy. It had a wire mount that attached to it and wrapped all the way around my head. It was very uncomfortable and really hurt my head really bad. I took the bluetooth headset anyway and went to my car (a 15 passenger van in this dream) to grab the 2 parts of the amp to give to the mob. When I brought the amp to the mob, I planned on asking for a different headset because this one sucked. And they seemed like really reasonable people who would understand.
Then I ran into my dad. I explained the entire situation to him. As I was unloading the amp from my 15 passenger van, my dad went over to talk to the mobsters. The mob boss had gotten in a car and left briefly to go get something. As I walked over to where the other mobsters were, my dad had jumped in the front seat of one of the mob cars (a Honda CRV, the classic mobster car) and my dad had somehow convinced the mobsters to go with him. My dad had a plan. I had no idea what it was. Then my dad took off in the car. Right as he was pulling out of the parking spot and driving around the parking lot, the mob boss arrived, back from his short errand. When he spotted my dad in the car, he thought I was in it and was trying to get out of our bluetooth-guitar amp trade. As it turns out, nothing makes mobsters more upset.
His car zoomed towards the one my dad was driving. He flew by me. My dad’s car turned around and started coming straight at me. It nearly hit me. I had to jump straight up in the air. When I came back down, my feet were on the hood of the car. My dad backed up and kept driving, with the mob boss close behind. My dad drove back to where I was and almost hit me again. When he got to me this time, I jumped through the sunroof and into the car. When I got situated, I was in the back seat of the car with my dad. My friend Doug was now driving and my friend Peter was in the front seat with a keyboard on the dashboard. He was playing some crazy awesome stuff. Doug was driving wildly. While my dad had gotten in the car with 2 mobsters, now they were my friends, I don’t know how they changed all of a sudden. Also the car had magically transformed into a Honda Civic Hatchback (the other mobster classic). It was a serious rice burner and had a black primer coat on the outside. The car was incredibly loud. Doug circled the parking lot one more time and headed for the street. On the way out I spotted large semi delivery truck and a hearse parked on the street.
As we weaved in and out of traffic, still being chased by the mob boss, I said to Doug, “If I had to be in a high speed chase, I’m so glad you’re the one driving!” In my dream he was an incredible legendary driver and was notorious for his driving skills. That’s not true in real life. We only drove down 1 street the whole time but we were weaving in and out of traffic on both sides of the street. Then we went down a hill and pulled into a parking garage that was underground. We breathed a sigh of relief because we had gotten away. I did think to myself that the whole ordeal was unnecessary because the mobsters were decent people who just wanted to trade the guitar amp for a crappy bluetooth headset, but even then, I’m sure they would have understood and given me a better, more comfortable headset.
Then I woke up because my alarm was going off.
What does it mean to “go all Mel Gibson” on someone?

I had a dream that I was at some family gathering. My entire extended family was staying at a hotel. Though the people in this dream are not my actual family at all. They were just random people that I believed in my dream were my family.
I was sharing a hotel room with a man that I think was supposed to be my uncle. He was a very grumpy old man. We had just gotten back from some family event and he had been very rude. I was with him, another cousin of mine who was my age, and another relative who was closer to my uncle’s age. We hiked to the top of this hill. We had parked our cars at the bottom and walked up the dirt hill. My uncle was trying to construct something out of large metal bars. It kept falling over and my other older relative was making fun of my uncle. My uncle kept getting angrier and insisting that if they would just wait a minute, it would “float”. I knew in the dream that he didn’t literally mean float, it was more of a exaggerated adjective. It wasn’t anywhere near water or anything either.
My uncle started yelling at my cousin to go get some tool for him. This tool though was at the bottom of a pond that was nearby. My cousin would have to dive in and get soaking wet. When my cousin said no, my uncle grew very angry. They argued back and forth for several minutes. It was literally several minutes of them arguing in my dream. Finally my uncle yelled “Don’t make me go all Mel Gibson on you!” and shot my cousin twice. The first shot was taken with the gun still in his pocket inside his coat, while the second was out of his coat.
Shocked, I turned to my other older relative to see what he was doing, but I could barely see him as he was most of the way down the hill running. I looked back at my other dueling relatives. My cousin was on the ground, dying. My grumpy uncle was still yelling. I decided to walk down the hill casually then frantically grabbed my bag out of my uncle’s car. I still had a lot of clothes that weren’t in the bag and tried to grab as many as possible. I was going to run for it, but I didn’t know where I was going. I was trying to think of someone I could call.
Then it was a few hours later and I was talking to a friend about what had happened and they told me that unfortunately, there’s no legal action we could take against my uncle. If we took it to any authorities, he would walk free. I remember thinking to myself that that’s how it always ends up in movies and how stupid that is.
Then I woke up and realized what a crazy dream I had had. I knew I had to write it down, so I grabbed to notebook next to my bed and a pen and started to recall the details of the dream in my mind. Then I woke up again, this time for real. Then I wrote it all down for real.
Horribly Sad Dream
October 12th, 2010 § Leave a Comment
Be warned. This is a seriously depressing dream. It felt incredibly real and the entire time I was overcome with a deep sadness like I’ve never felt before.
It was my friend’s birthday. He and I aren’t super good friends in real life but he’s a good dude. It was his birthday. He found out on his birthday that he had cancer. I was very sad for him. That same day (in the dream) I got a call from my brother saying that his wife had 2 types of cancer as well. I spent a good deal of the dream crying. Much of the dream was very cloudy because my eyes were full of tears and I was trying to see through them.
After I got the news about 2 people I know having cancer, I was transported to another scene. It was almost like a fade like in a movie. I was in a building searching for a doctor. It was a large 1 story building. There was no one in the building whatsoever. All of a sudden it started raining outside and a doctor came in, a woman. I tried to get her attention but I don’t think she heard me.
Then it was another scene. My friend, his girlfriend and I were in a van in a parking lot. I was in the backseat and I was messing around on an electric bass. My friend and I were going to do some pop song that night. He was explaining how it was just going to be him on drums and me on bass and no one else.
Then it was another scene. I was at a restaurant with my friend and all of a sudden we looked around and were surround by maybe 50 friends who were all singing happy birthday for him. At this point I started weeping uncontrollably. I looked down and had an electric bass on and wanted to play along with everyone singing, but my top string was tuned up a whole step, and I didn’t feel like figuring it out from there.
Another scene. I meet my brother and my mom in an alley. I hug my brother and cry a ton.
Then I woke up and was getting ready for church rehearsal (it was a saturday morning) and I got a phone call that we were going to do a photoshoot that involved throwing food everywhere. I was sorta excited because it sounded fun.
Then I woke up for real. I had still been dreaming.
Driving Backwards
August 27th, 2010 § Leave a Comment
I had a quick dream last night that I was at a clearing in a forest, where there was a building and some cars. I had just finished meeting someone in the building and was leaving. As I went to leave in my car, my older brother showed up and was in his own car. He began to drive around me and block me from leaving. He was just messing around. I kept backing up and trying to leave another way, but he was quick and kept blocking me in. The majority of this dream I was driving backwards. I was really nervous because I physically couldn’t turn around to see where I was going. I was relying entirely on my mirrors. I kept thinking I was going to run someone over or crash into another car, but I never did. Finally, I pulled a huge turnaround where I was going backwards, then flipped the car 180 degrees and kept driving straight. It was awesome. I was surprised that I was able to pull off the maneuver. Then I drove off.
Then I woke up.
